May 17- Arizona has announced the team for the first of two tournaments, with the 2018 USA Rugby College Sevens Championship slated for this weekend in Glendale, Colorado.
The team is led by veteran captain Kyle Rogers and vice captain Ben Joseph as they lead the 15-man roster that is ready to show well in hopes of winning some hardware and earning selection to the June 2-3 Collegiate Rugby Championship roster.
A number of veterans from the Fall's PAC Sevens Championship return with a group of speedy young players named to the side as well. Head Coach Sean Duffy pointed to the strong effort put in by the team as a great sign for the coming tournament. "I'm really proud of this group and how hard they've worked, we still have a ways to go and we have a tough tournament this weekend but seeing guys like Matt Rogers, Garrett Walker, and Jonah Eldridge really take the next step in the past few weeks has been special. We got some young guns that I think will give us a peek in to the future of our Sevens program as well this weekend which I'm excited about. Our goals are to win our pool, take care of the basics early, and win this weekend, then focus on the next."
The Wildcats slot in to pool c alongside Grand Canyon University, Nevada, and Florida International, with all of this weekend's matches streamed on FloRugby.com. The tournament will be hosted at Infinity Park, home of Major League Rugby's Glendale Raptors and one of the finest complexes in the country for the sport.
