October 18- Arizona got year two of the Coach Tatum Quimby's tenure underway on Saturday with a trip to Las Cruces for a preseason match against New Mexico State. The Wildcats, having returned a large portion of last year's roster, came into the game testing combinations and looking to get valuable minutes as they build towards the Spring.

 

The Wildcats would battle the Aggies early, with their attack coming together nicely and hard lines from Molly Chisholm and Regan Parnell. Conversions from Talia Ben-Yosef and Chisholm would make it a tight a game into the closing minutes. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the Aggies would defend home field, handing the team a preseason-opening loss but the weekend was less about results and much more about the minutes.

 

"Our attack looked more organized and we got great intensity from the forwards in attack" said Quimby. "Audrey Miller and Aspen Wrzesinske had a strong counterrucking presence, looking for opportunities to take possession. The backs are building good chemistry."

 

Center Talia Ben-Yosef pointed to the progress from prior seasons as a great sign for the future. "Players were a lot more clear about their roles. We were offering a lot more support in phase play, and during both halves our 9/10 duos showed great improvement working together."

 

The Wildcats will have a quick turnaround before hosting Grand Canyon University on Friday at 7:30 PM at Sitton Field.
