February 13- In their first conference match of the season, Arizona is set to host Cal in another match up of top ten teams, a recurring theme for the Wildcats in 2024. In what many expect to be the final year of formalized PAC-12 play, Arizona, alongside Cal, UCLA, and Utah will battle it out for the final championship with all four schools' athletic departments moving to different conferences next season. This makes Saturday's match all the more important, an opportunity for Arizona to bounce back after a hard-fought loss last week against #5 Central Washington. "Play good teams, learn good things. Play bad teams, learn bad things." said Director of Rugby Sean Duffy.

Helping lead the education will be the leadership duo of Jack Brown and Jacob Broselle, with the latter earning Wildcat of the Week honors for his performance against Central Washington. Pacific Smiley moves into the lineup at Lock, allowing Brown to slide back to Flanker. In the backs, George O'Brien returns at Scrumhalf and pairs with Ted Champion, another standout from last week whose early try assist set the tone. In the reserves, Scrumhalf Jacob Hall and Center Charley Redknapp are two of the several first and second year athletes cracking the 23, a great sign for the future in Tucson. "It's a deeper team than we've had in past which presents opportunities and challenges. The opportunity is to routinely be ready to take on good teams with your depth. The challenge is can our guys win the contest in their specific role, even if that role isn't the one they want long-term? It is going to take our entire program to go where we all want to go, and I'm pleased that the guys are buying into that" said Duffy.

Cal comes off a loss to #6 BYU, but is just two weeks removed from a comprehensive victory over #13 UCLA. Arizona (12-4) will take on the Bears in two matches this weekend, with the Wildcats' 2nd XV opening the day tomorrow against Cal 2nd XV at Sitton Field.

Admission is free for all University of Arizona students and staff with a Catcard. Gates at Sitton Field open at 11:30 AM MST.
