Apr 9- Arizona Rugby has received a transformative $500,000 gift from the Cox Family, establishing “The Anna & Brad Cox Academic Leadership Rugby Scholarship” through the University of Arizona Foundation. This scholarship will support academically and athletically talented rugby student-athletes.

Brad Cox, an alumnus from the 1970s and the second inductee into the Arizona Rugby Hall of Fame in 2018, has been a long-time supporter of the university and its rugby program. His distinguished career in commercial real estate, serving as Senior Managing Director for Trammell Crow Company, and his philanthropic contributions alongside his late wife, Anna, have left a lasting legacy. This endowed fund reflects their shared commitment to fostering leadership and excellence both on and off the field.

The scholarship fund aims to attract top-tier athletes who excel academically, further solidifying the program’s reputation as a competitive force in collegiate rugby. Sean Duffy, Director of Rugby and Head Coach, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Cox family’s transformative gift, emphasizing its profound impact on the program’s future. “This scholarship is more than just financial support—it’s a testament to the values of leadership, excellence, and community that define Arizona Rugby,” Duffy said. “It empowers our athletes to pursue greatness both on the field and in the classroom, while inspiring us to continue building a program that attracts top talent from around the world. The Cox family’s generosity is a beacon for what we can achieve together.”

Brad Cox’s legacy extends beyond athletics, exemplifying how alumni can shape the future of student-athletes through philanthropy. The endowed fund ensures future generations will thrive academically while pursuing their passion for rugby.

This gift comes as the University of Arizona’s rugby program gains national recognition. Investments like this bolster recruiting efforts and attract talent globally, supported by Tucson’s welcoming environment and strong academics. The scholarship aligns with the university’s mission to develop resilient student-athletes who succeed on the field, in the classroom, and beyond graduation.

As the rugby team celebrates its 56th anniversary this year, Cox’s generosity marks a significant milestone in its history. It inspires hope for further alumni engagement and ensures that Arizona Rugby remains a cornerstone of athletic and academic excellence.
