ARIZONA PRIMED FOR EXCITING 2018
Sean Coleman and Bronson Teles hope to continue the Wildcats' rise to the top of College Rugby this coming season.
Nov 28- Arizona unveiled their regular season schedule today, with a bold lineup of sides coming to Sitton Field to face the Wildcats this Spring.
Arizona kicks off their 49th season on January 13th against newly promoted Grand Canyon University before formally kicking off conference play February 3rd against UCLA. February will feature prominently for the Wildcats this season, as #12 Utah and #4 Cal make trips to Sitton Field on consecutive weekends. February 24th against Arizona State will hold a special spot on the calendar for reasons other than in-state bragging rights, as the weekend will also feature the Dave Sitton Strong & Tough Golf Tournament and the 2nd Annual Hall of Fame Celebration.
While the Las Vegas Sevens has been and will remain a key destination for the Wildcats in March, this year's team will take a further trip as they embark on a Spring Break Tour to Argentina. The Wildcats will play two first-grade matches in the South American nation with a Second XV midweek match also lined up. Following the tour, a pair of California Conference teams travel to Tucson, with #10 San Diego State and Cal Poly visiting to wrap March. One usual March team that is not on the Spring calendar is Notre Dame, with the next Parseghian Cup slated for Fall 2018 in South Bend.
Arizona will hope to secure its third straight trip to the D1A Playoffs where they'll look to build on last year's run to the Final Four before falling to eventual champions Saint Mary's College. After Fifteens has concluded, the Wildcats will shift their focus to Sevens to close out the academic year, with the Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia lined up along with USA Rugby Collegiate Sevens two weeks prior after qualifying as PAC Sevens champions this month.
In addition to running out a first side this Spring, Arizona Second XV has a grueling schedule lined up, with an increasing number of first side opponents taking on the Wildcats. Victories last season over Stanford and USC has led the team to boosting that schedule, adding a challenging tour match in Buenos Aires along with a match-up against New Mexico April 7th to the calendar. Arizona Third XV will also compete this Spring, with their schedule soon to be announced.
The Wildcats will also look forward to debuting their new Nike team strip, making them the only program in the country backed by the world's leader in sport.
Ticketing information will be available in the coming weeks along with more details on in-game promotions and events surrounding the season.
